Watermelon Sangria

Well, sadly I’m back from our vacation and back to regular programming. I had planned/scheduled some posts for the blog while I was away however I didn’t expect that some of our locations were as remote as they were without wifi (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but was rather just unexpected). Stay tuned for Travel Chapters on London and Scotland but in the meantime – I’m unpacking, getting my place back together and will be day dreaming about pints, chips. DSC_0004 If there was a fruit ambassador for summer – I would vote for the Watermelon. So delicious, pretty in colour and obviously ripe during this time of year. I thoroughly enjoy it on it’s own but who doesn’t enjoy fruit with a little alcohol sometimes? Sangria could easily be my favourite drink of the summer and well, put watermelon and sangria together and it’s just a summer party in a cup.

  • 1/2 of a Watermelon, cubed
  • 1 Mango, diced
  • 1 Lime, juiced
  • 1 Grapefruit, diced
  • 1 Bottle of Rose
  • 2 ounces of Triple Sec

Simply mix ingredients, stir together and serve! This recipe serves 4-6 people and the longer you let it sit, the better it gets when you bite into the bits of fruit at the end. Enjoy! DSC_0014 DSC_0006

Happy Valentine’s Day

So February has been just okay right?

I mean, winter is winter and we have to deal with it but have you heard about Mercury being in retrograde? I just don’t feel like I fully have it all together these days and feel a bit off. I realize that some call this the winter blues but I don’t think that’s just it. I had all of these really cute and fun DIY plans, cookie baking and cocktail concocting and they just never came to fruition. Now looking back, I can’t even tell you why. Time just simply passed and now the day is here! Better start penning my valentines. I guess not eating a dozen heart-shaped cookies is a good thing right?
Normally on Valentine’s Day, Andrew and I book reservations somewhere but this year, we’re making dins together (pizza to be exact), relaxing with some nice wine and tuning into the anticipated Season 2 of House of Cards. What else could you really ask for? I’m thinking that this long weekend will cure whatever is going on so cheers to a long weekend and a Happy Valentine’s Day all!

Wine Country

This past weekend, my fiance and I hit the road and visited an area just outside the city, Beamsville, Ontario. It really wasn’t far at all but you felt like you were far away – it was so cute and quaint. Unfortunately, one of the wineries that as first on our list to visit wasn’t offering tasting because they had lost power the day before due to the storm we had. We’ll visit the Hidden Bench next time. Our next stop was unexpected but turned out to be my favourite – Dillon’s Distillery. They make four signature spirits with complementing bitters. They allow you to taste each, yes a sip of straight vodka, rye or gin and will even prepare you the most delicious gin & tonic ever (more on that to come!). If you are making your way to the Niagara region, I highly recommend making this stop. I didn’t just fall in love with their spirits I feel in love with their brand.

On our way to Fielding Winery.

Stopping for a late lunch at Good Earth Winery.

Dillon’s Distillery (you have to go!)

Making a stop by the water for a light picnic with our newly gathered goods (wine!).
