My Style // Long Jacket

DSC_0017 :: Jacket, Sweater Dress, Slide Loafers, Sunnies ::

Do you guys remember that song from Cake – Short skirt, long jacket? Well that had been playing in my head every time I put this jacket on. I felt compelled to compile the pairing with the warm fall temperatures we had this week. Regardless of my last post, yesterday’s weather turned out to be amazing. The length of this jacket is not your average length but believe it or not it really does add to the warmth as well as feeling a little retro. I love that it’s a neutral that can work with just about everything and these loafers? I’ve been living in them this fall.

My Style // Whoopi

Sometimes the internet can be super annoying. Sometimes it’s super helpful and convenient and then others time it can foster some serious negativity and self doubt. I love blogs (clearly, as I have one) but for I love them for many reasons. I love the inspiration I get from them, the photos, outfits and ideas are endless. I love following along other’s bloggers lives even though I don’t personally know them. Some bloggers I have been following so long that I’ve followed them through some serious and major milestones. I also learn from them – such great resources and how-to’s out there.  I don’t know the future of bloggers and blogging but I think we are here to stay a wee bit longer that’s for sure.

So where am I going with this? Recently I I met with a friend who graciously was going to take an outfit photo for this here blog. So I show up – my outfit idea was something simple, an oversized weekend casual outfit you may call it. I was going to talk about how excited I am to be wearing sneaks, and am busting out the felt hat for a little while longer before it gets too warm (is that even a thing?) to wear. So we step outside sans jacket (!) and snap a couple pics. We return inside and as I’m flipping through a serious realization comes over me – I LOOK LIKE WHOOPI GOLDBERG. From the hat, sunglasses, oversized top and converse. Like, I could not more look like her if I tried! My immediate thought was “I CANNOT share these pictures” and then for some reason I felt compelled to share them because my life or style is not perfect in any way shape or form. I legit wore this outfit for some reason and maybe I didn’t look in the mirror before I left but my style is always evolving and I just wanted to throw it out there that sometimes there are misses. I’m not striving for perfection, I’ll leave that to the models but I do try to put out my best (as everyone is online). Some bloggers choose the SAME THINGS and it’s like enough is enough you know?

Be different, be original – be Whoopi!

March Vibes

2015-03-10_13-44-48 And just like that it feels proper and right in the world. Can you remember the feeling of the -30 temps now? I know we aren’t out of the thick of it just yet however I am taking off to sunny Florida soon and you best believe I am creating a million and one outfits in my head in anticipation. I’m just excited about leaving the down jackets, scarfs and gloves at home. I’ve also got a couple other items on the brain for this month as well.

1. This print! I’ve been thinking about this print for so long and just need to decide upon how many of them I need or where it will live in our place. I tried watercolour painting last weekend and it was amazing – I loved it! The end goal will to be create some for our home but it’s fun to just play around right now.

2. I’ve purchased these trousers and am obsessed. They are the feel good pants that I cannot wait to wear in Florida! Easily pairable and can be dressed up or down – so pumped.

3. This sculptural guy from Hudsons Bay is just neat – I’ve been working with Lisa lately and she picked something up similar and it’s been catching my since. Considering to add it to the homestead.

4. I mean – how cute is this Flamingo Bottle Stopper? Its so cute and cheeky – it’s the perfect Spring addition to your bar cart.

5. Our next book for our bookclub! I haven’t started it yet but I am excited to dive right in. I’ve never travelled outside of Canada alone (just moved to Banff!) but I feel like there’s a trip inside of me somewhere.

6. No kidding you – during our fam jam walk in Leslieville/Little India on Sunday we stopped in for some butter chicken and saw these stools (or something similar) and I adored them. After flipping through the Spring issue of Domino and spotting them – I knew it was a sign that I need to find space for it in my home. Potentially a DIY? Not sure yet.

7. Ok – Imma gonna be honest – I’m normally a one-piece girl but this two-piece bather is just too cute – I love it and everyone needs goals right? At least the briefs are high-waited am I right?

8. I was super sad when I lost one of my slider sandals last year and was hoping that they would make them again this year! They’ve slightly redone them but with the same ease of slip ons so I’m happy 🙂

9. I’m using oil on my face! Can you believe it? Can you dig it? I’m pleasantly surprised that it absorbs really quickly and doesn’t in the slightest make my skin feel oily. Also – this company is the bomb – all ingredients are 100% organic and the founder even ensures that the women extracting the oil from the Argan seeds are paid a fair wage. Talk about women empowering other women.

10. I remember when I thought these were ugly sunglasses so it’s ok if you think they are too. I came around when J.Crew included them (such a sucker) in their spring style guide. These guys also fold up nice and small to pop in your clutch.

11. Talk about retro – I can just picture these on my friend Sarah who always wears the COOLEST earrings. And for the fair price of $12.95 – whynot?

Mustard Yellow

I love it when a colour can really act as a neutral. Not too bright, a bit muted and easily works with other items in my closet. When I spotted these pants (a while ago!) I was immediately drawn by the colour and quickly realized that I dressed up or down, I needed to have them.

Persistence really does pay off. I’m not sure what kind of online shopper you may be but I have a routine. I peruse my websites frequently and use their wishlists provided. They are the best for monitoring when things go on sale and when their inventory goes low. When an item is flagged as “only a few left” I know it’s game time and I need to make a decision, hopefully throwing in a discount code with free shipping to seal the deal. Sometimes I like to get risky and wait when there are only a few items left for a promo code to be shared in my inbox and then sometimes, the item is just gone. That was the situation with this dress, it disappeared from my wishlist yet not from my mind and thats when I knew, the mission was on. After a couple phone calls, shipping it to a second cousin in the U.S. – it was mine! Since it’s shorter, it’s more a weekend dress and not work appropriate but that’s OK with me. I like to keep it simple on weekends with a dress, slip on sandals and straw tote as my main go-to.

p.s. is the summer flying by for anyone else? I hate to mention it but how are we almost in July?!

Doubling it up

::Trench (old)/Leather Moto/Jeans/Booties/Clutch::

Wearing a transitional jacket between seasons can sometimes be difficult, especially when spring hasn’t really met our expectations. The trench can still be chilly yet your leather moto jacket doesn’t scream spring as much as you would like. Well, why not try both? Burberry and Mackage pull off the look so well so I figured I would try a little DIY version. Mind you – the trench was a little *tight* underneath but once you reached your destination, you could pair down to one of the two. I’m currently finishing up this post in NYC, super excited to get out and explore so ciao for now!

Powder Blue

::Jacket/J.crew (old but similar here), Sweater/Zara (old), Sunnies/Ray-Ban, Pants/J.Brand (old), Clutch/ela (old), Scarf/Club Monaco (old), Shoes/J.Crew (old)::

It’s Fridayyyy! I couldn’t be more excited since I am leaving for Montreal for a weekend with my best girlfriends. We’re going to spend the weekend catching up (we all live in different cities), spa-ing it up at Bota-Bota and enjoying some fine wine with a side of poutine. Cannot wait!

I love it when a colour has a moment. Pastels are always in for spring but now more than ever, powder blue is having a moment and I’m basking in it. There are a million and one new blue items that I would love to get my hands on but after opening up my closet I realized that I had more than I thought! For this casual look I paired the blue with light neutrals such as grey and white. To be completely honest I was freezing when I wore this outside, so we aren’t there yet weather wise but figured it was cute none the less.

Cold but cozy

It’s cold out there! It all seemed to happen so fast. No longer are the days when you can venture outdoors without a jacket however these pictures were taken last month when I headed with a friend to the Junction Flea at Evergreen Brickworks. I didn’t end up making any stellar purchases however it was nice to breathe the fresh air, try the Whisky Cider and take in the the pretty colours of fall.

Luckily it was still warm enough for cashmere and a blanket scarf. I have to admit, although I prefer the easy breezy summer – I’m into the sweaters and layers of fall. For now.

In the trenches

::Dress/J.crew, Shoes/J.Crew, Bag/Michael Kors, Bracelet/Old {similar here}, Sunglasses/Ray Ban::

But not for long! Towards the end of the month last month, I was feeling a little lost in the trenches. Just trying to keep my head above water. I ducked out of the office for a quick snap of the camera since I just adore this dress. When I first saw it online I was hesitant since a larger busted girl like me shouldn’t be donning the double breasted buttons but I threw that rule out the window because I just couldn’t resist. The stretch wool blend is so comfortable and doesn’t easily crease when you’re sitting at your desk. It’s work appropriate but also has the playfulness to keep things light.

Fall Sorbet

Phew! What a week.
Work is been quite busy and having to make a couple of last minute adjustments to our weddings date kept my work week nice and interesting so I was really excited for the weekend. I was able to spend sometime outside and knocked some items off my to-do list. Said items included meeting a friend for a mexican birthday brunch, visiting the Christian Louboutin exhibit at the Design Exchange and throwing a baby shower. It’s also a weekend that gave us that wonderful first taste of fall and I was more than happy that I had my fall coat ready in hand. I find the fall pastel trend quite refreshing and when I spotted this jacket, I knew I had to have it.
